Writing Essentials: Three-Session Webinar Series

Writing is the most important skill a marketer can possess.  Your ability to effectively communicate your firm’s qualifications to clients is the key to success…both yours and your firm’s.

 

Whether you lack the business writing skills you need, or you just want a refresher, this three-class series will help you to:

 

  • Organize your thoughts better
  • Write more precisely and more clearly, and
  • Write for impact

You can take only one or two sessions, or register for all three at a discount.  Participants who register for all three sessions may also submit a writing sample of up to 600 words to receive an individual writing assessment.

 

The individual sessions are each 90 minutes and run  from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM Eastern Time.  If you can’t make the scheduled dates for the live webinars, the recorded sessions are available on CD’s.  Below is a general outline for each session.

 

Webinar 1.  Rules of Writing  - Friday, October 14, 2011 - 1:00 - 2:30 PM ET

 

Clarity, coherence and correctness are the basic tenets of effective writing.  This session is aimed at improving your use of language, punctuation and graphics to communicate more effectively.  Topics include:

 

n      Principles of Writing for Impact

n      Common Grammatical Pitfalls

n      Typical Spelling Errors

n      Proper Use of Punctuation

n      Common Sense Guidelines

 

Webinar 2.  Basic Business Writing -Friday, October 21, 2011 - 1:00 - 2:3 ET

                

AEC marketers are responsible for a variety of written communications.  In today’s fast-paced business environment, you need to understand your audience, get to the point quickly and communicate clearly and concisely.  This session will cover the following basic business communications:

 

  • E-mail
  • Business Letters
  • Letters of Introduction and Interest
  • Minutes of Meetings
  • Memos
  • Project Descriptions

Webinar 3. Persuasive and Technical Writing - Friday, October 28, 2011 - 1:00-2:30 ET

 

Beyond basic business communication, marketers need to write persuasively.  You must articulate compelling arguments for why your firm should be selected for a project or an award.  Often these communications require technical writing.  This session will discuss how to organize your thoughts and collaborate with design staff to create compelling marketing communications.  This session will focus on:

  • Cover Letters / Executive Summaries
  • Statements of Qualification
  • Award Submissions
