Sally Handley
Sally A. Handley

Sally A. Handley, FSMPS has 25 years experience in the marketing of professional services. Consulting to the A/E/C industry since 1999, Sally has worked with architectural and engineering clients, assisting them to achieve their marketing goals. She has helped firms create focused marketing plans and developed new client bases for younger partners of firms in transition. Sally has provided marketing training for both technical and marketing staff.


Winner of the SMPS Year 2000 Marketing Achievement Award, Sally is a Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM) and a Fellow of the Society for Marketing Professional Services. Sally served on the National Board of Directors of the Society for Marketing Professional Services. Past President of the SMPS New York Area Chapter, she was the recipient of the 1998 SMPS Chapter President of the Year Award.

In 1995, Sally developed a Marketing and Presentations class for Pratt Institute’s Design Firm Management Program, the first of its kind in the nation. Sally has adapted this class to a 2-day format for today’s busy marketing professional, which she teaches as an adjunct faculty member at Pratt Institute.

Sally is co-author of Charting Your Career Path: Opportunities for Professional Services Marketers in the 21st Century. She has written several articles on a variety of marketing topics including staffing and managing a marketing department and using metrics to evaluate the marketing effort. Sally also has provided seminars, workshops and keynote addresses on marketing topics for professional associations nationally, including AIA, SMPS, SDA, NJSEA and The Society of Women Engineers.

Laura D'Aprix
serves as Account Manager for SMPS New York Area Chapter. Laura has 18 years of experience in marketing, corporate communications, public relations and client-oriented research projects.

Since 1998, Laura has worked as a consultant for professional architectural and engineering companies on an as-needed basis to support on-going marketing efforts.
Prior to working as a consultant, Laura was the Marketing Director for the 400-person multi-disciplinary engineering firm, Vollmer Associates LLP. Responsibilities included all areas of marketing, including management and implementation of the firm's marketing plan, weekly and monthly reporting to partners, lead tracking and managing proposal production, and all other business development activities, including advertising, corporate communications, standard qualifications and budgets.

Laura's writing experience includes the development, writing and editing of standard firm qualifications, new corporate brochures, project profiles and standardization of firm resumes. Additionally, she served as Editor of Vollmer Associates' NEWSBRIEFS publication for three years, published twice a year for clients and employees and winner of the 1992 Award of Excellence in the Newsletter Category from the Society for Marketing Professionals Services (SMPS).

Laura's research experience includes individual assignments for clients to identify new client bases. She also worked as part of a team to complete a research assignment for a project to gather company and property information and perform statistical analysis to identify possible property growth scenarios. Also as part of a team, Laura worked to complete interviews and research on major urban retail markets. Laura has served as a Board Member from 1995-1998 for the Society of Marketing Professional Services and on the Public Relations Committee for the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) from 1986-1988.
